Mary Beth Alder, PhD, CANP is an investigator at CARE-ID. Dr. Alder came to Infectious Diseases Physicians, Inc. in 1985 where she worked as the Clinical Director of Nursing until earning her Master’s Degree in Nursing from The Catholic University of America in 1989. She certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner in 1990 and continues as the practice’s CANP. Dr. Alder earned her Doctorate of Nursing Science in 1998. She earned several honors throughout her academic career including Honors List from the University of Maryland, Honors List from The Catholic University of America, Special Recognition Award (1985) from the American Heart Association, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of America Research Award. Dr. Alder is a member of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, the Virginia Nurses Association, the District of Columbia Nurse Practitioners Association, Association of Reproductive Health Professionals, Southern Nurses Research Association, Sigma Theta Tau, and the 3M Women’s Health Advisory Board. Dr. Alder has been published in the “Medical Clinics of North America”, “Recent Advances in Chemotherapy”, “Journal of Infectious Diseases”, “The Nurse Practitioner: The American Journal of Primary Health Care”, and “Genitourinary Medicine”. Dr. Alder has been involved with clinical research, through IDP, and now CARE-ID, since 1985. She began working as a sub-investigator on clinical trials in 1990.
