David Wheeler, MD, FACP, is a member of the medical staff and a Partner of Infectious Diseases Physicians, Inc. He is the Medical Director of CARE-ID and is an Investigator at CARE-ID. Dr. Wheeler received his medical degree from the University of Virginia. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado, and his Infectious Diseases fellowship at the University of Maryland. He is board certified in both internal medicine and the subspecialty of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Wheeler is fluent in Spanish and spent several years practicing medicine in Puerto Rico as a part of the National Health Services Corps. He has been in the private practice of Infectious Diseases in Northern Virginia since 1996. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care, the International AIDS Society, the Virginia Medical Society, and the Fairfax County Medical Society. Dr. Wheeler is a Medical Advisor for the HIV Prevention and Care Initiative, USAID in Haiti, Malawi, and Mozambique. He is an invited lecturer in Latin America as well as the United States, and he has publications in numerous journals including Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Journal of the American Medical Association, and Journal of AIDS.
